(above: Sometimes I Just Want to Kill Everyone. Sam Brown, of ExplodingDog.com has been making his art work for years, since he was fired at an office job. People send emails to Sam, with a single sentence in them. He then makes digital paintings incorporating those drawings, and sometimes elaborates or adds to the sentence. I have been a fan of Sam Brown since high school, but it was only now that I realized how appropriate he is for this course.
Today we mentioned Japanese pop art in class. It seems that to discuss digital painting, it is essential to mention Murakami. He is heavily influenced by Japanese animation and culture. He mainly does large scale painting, but has done a few videos and sculpture too.

Roy Lichtenstein is one of my favorite artists, and one who I feel is appropriate to this class. Some of his best work goes beyond taking comics and turning them into paintings, by turning comics into paintings of comics, into sculptures. I got to see some of his sculptures in person in DC.
